In this project, we are going to show you how to design a simple Battery voltage Level Indicator Circuit using very simple available components.
Battery voltage level indicator indicates the status of current of the battery just by glowing LED’s in series(Red,Yellow,Green). Res LED’s Indicates 2 volts, 2nd red LED indicates that current is now 4 volts, Yellow LED indicates current is now 7 volts and Green LED indicates that current is now 12 volts in the battery. In this circuit we have 1k resistors to control the current in the LED’s you can use 560 ohm resistor with last two LEDs because last two LEDs has on top level of all LEDs that is why you can use less resistor. This project explains you how design battery level indicator with few components. You can use this circuit to check car battery or invert-er. This circuit helps you to increase the life time of the battery.
Circuit 2 with adjustable volts measurement
you can change this circuit easily by increasing and decreasing the LED’s and resistors. If you want to change this circuit as adjustable then please use variable with it as shown in the diagram.
In this circuit i have used just a 5 k potentiometer to adjust the measurement of volts. In this way this circuit become more flexible now you can measure even till 40 volts.
Battery Voltage Level Indicator Circuit Principle
The current level indicator circuit work with the help of roisters as well as LED’s. Resistors controls current in series with the help of LED’s As current pass through the 1st LED’s current value slow down and that is way 2nd LED glows on more volts as compare to 1st LED and in this way 3rd LED required more volts to glow as compare to 2nd led. In this way next LED required more volts to glow as compare to previous. we are using 1 k resistors only for protecting LED’s because LED can bear only 1.5 to 3V.
How to Build a Voltage Level Indicator with a Zener Diode
In this circuit, we are going to show you how to build a voltage level indicator with zen-er diodes. In this project we have used 4 zen-er diodes of different powers to make a perfect voltage level indicator.
A normal diode acts as a short circuit in forward bias condition while in reverse bias condition, it acts as a open circuit. A Zener Diode has a breakdown when a certain voltage level is reached. The voltage that pass through the zener diode is called the breakdown voltage of the zener diode. If a zener has a breakdown voltage of 5.1 V, after 5.1 V or greater is applied to it, it will cross the voltages which power on a load.In this circuit, the type of zener diode we have used are:
- 1N4728: 3.3V
- 1N4734: 5.6V
- 1N4739: 9.1V
- 1N4742: 12V
According to zener Diode 1st LED will glow on 3.3v 2nd LED will glow on 5.6v 3rd Led will glow on 9.1v and last Led will glow on 12.1 volts. In this way you can increase the no of zener and no of LEDs to make it more suitable.

These are different zener diodes you can use as you want . They all have different breakdown voltages, so they can set a different voltage for the voltage level indicator circuit.
